Michele Satta in brief
The Michele Satta estate was established in 1984 when Satta, fascinated by the technical and cultural aspects of wine, left his past occupation in farm management to pursue a career as a wine specialist. The 1990 vintage revealed the great potential of the Sangiovese grapes he planted. Soon he acquired more land and experimented with international varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, which, according to Satta, have shown “great expression and character.” His white wines include the Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc and Viogner varietals. By 1991, Satta’s vineyards had a density of 6400 plants per hectare. Satta believes that wine shouldn’t be made generically accessible to everyone’s palate saying, “The real difference is wine of standard quality rather than individual, unique quality. What is peculiar about a person, place or history cannot be reproduced. Our value is in our individuality, which we must be proud of and learn how to communicate by coming together with people of other cultures and telling them about our traditions.” Though Satta uses state-of-the art equipment, work in the vineyards is still completed by hand.
